In value terms, breathing appliances exports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, exports saw a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 82% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Russia dominates exports structure, amounting to X units, which was near 90% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Moldova (X units), achieving a 5.4% share of total exports. Kazakhstan (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from Russia increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Moldova (+151.1%) and Kazakhstan (+35.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Based on 2022 figures, breathing appliances export price increased by +58.2% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the export price increased by 48% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Moldova ($X per unit), while Russia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, supplies from abroad of breathing appliances and gas masks increased by 6.8% to X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Overall, imports, however, saw a pronounced decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 48% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, breathing appliances imports fell to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a noticeable reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 51% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Russia (X units) was the major importer of breathing appliances and gas masks, mixing up 43% of total imports. Kazakhstan (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 26% share, followed by Belarus (8.5%), Moldova (8.4%) and Uzbekistan (7.4%). Azerbaijan (X units) and Kyrgyzstan (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Moldova (with a CAGR of +27.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported breathing appliances and gas masks in the CIS, comprising 66% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 20% share of total imports. It was followed by Azerbaijan, with a 3.6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Russia was relatively modest. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kazakhstan (-6.7% per year) and Azerbaijan (-13.4% per year).

The import price in the CIS stood at $X per unit in 2022, with a decrease of -12.5% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.0%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 34%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit, and then fell in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per unit), while Moldova ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
