In 2021, after four years of growth, there was decline in the CIS bridge market, when its value decreased by -0.1% to $X. In general, consumption showed a slight curtailment. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

Bridge exports surged to X tons in 2021, jumping by 57% against 2020 figures. Overall, exports posted a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 283% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, bridge exports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports showed a remarkable increase. Exports by Country

In 2021, Russia (X tons) was the major exporter of bridges, bridge sections, towers and lattice masts (of iron or steel), mixing up 71% of total exports. Belarus (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 17% share, followed by Kazakhstan (11%).

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to bridge exports from Russia stood at +7.4%. At the same time, Kazakhstan (+45.0%) and Belarus (+40.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kazakhstan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +45.0% from 2012-2021. While the share of Belarus (+15 p.p.) and Kazakhstan (+10 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Russia (-20.9 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest bridge supplier in the CIS, comprising 65% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with an 18% share of total exports.

In Russia, bridge exports increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Kazakhstan (+54.7% per year) and Belarus (+37.8% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 2.3% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a perceptible downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Bridge imports skyrocketed to X tons in 2021, rising by 57% compared with 2020. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a abrupt setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 75%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, bridge imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt curtailment. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Azerbaijan (X tons), Kyrgyzstan (X tons), Kazakhstan (X tons) and Russia (X tons) represented the key importer of bridges, bridge sections, towers and lattice masts (of iron or steel) in the CIS, committing 80% of total import. Uzbekistan (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with an 8% share, followed by Armenia (5.8%). Tajikistan (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Uzbekistan (with a CAGR of +123.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Russia ($X), Azerbaijan ($X) and Kyrgyzstan ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 63% of total imports. These countries were followed by Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Armenia and Tajikistan, which together accounted for a further 33%.

Uzbekistan, with a CAGR of +106.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 9.7% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.6%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the import price increased by 27%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Azerbaijan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
