For the fifth consecutive year, the CIS twig broom market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by 166% to $X in 2021. In general, consumption saw strong growth. As a result, consumption reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

For the fourth year in a row, the CIS recorded decline in overseas shipments of brooms and brushes of twigs, which decreased by -67.5% to X units in 2021. Over the period under review, exports saw a deep contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 254%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, twig broom exports reduced dramatically to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, showed a prominent expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 177%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2020, and then shrank sharply in the following year.

Exports by Country

Uzbekistan was the major exporter of brooms and brushes of twigs in the CIS, with the volume of exports resulting at X units, which was near 53% of total exports in 2021. Moldova (X units) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 32% share, followed by Russia (12%).

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Russia (with a CAGR of +21.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.

In value terms, Uzbekistan ($X) remains the largest twig broom supplier in the CIS, comprising 80% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Russia ($X), with an 11% share of total exports.

In Uzbekistan, twig broom exports increased at an average annual rate of +20.2% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Russia (+17.5% per year) and Moldova (-17.1% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per unit, picking up by 93% against the previous year. Overall, the export price enjoyed strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 144% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per unit), while Moldova ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+82.2%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2021, overseas purchases of brooms and brushes of twigs increased by 6.4% to X units, rising for the fourth consecutive year after five years of decline. In general, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 43% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, twig broom imports totaled $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a abrupt downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 56% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Russia represented the largest importer of brooms and brushes of twigs in the CIS, with the volume of imports reaching X units, which was approx. 56% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Kyrgyzstan (X units) and Belarus (X units), together creating a 34% share of total imports. Azerbaijan (X units), Kazakhstan (X units) and Armenia (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Armenia (with a CAGR of +73.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported brooms and brushes of twigs in the CIS, comprising 49% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kyrgyzstan ($X), with a 20% share of total imports. It was followed by Kazakhstan, with an 11% share.

In Russia, twig broom imports shrank by an average annual rate of -4.7% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Kyrgyzstan (+33.3% per year) and Kazakhstan (-18.6% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per unit, dropping by -4.9% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a noticeable setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 31%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per unit), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
