For the fourth consecutive year, the CIS broom, brush, and mop market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by 3.4% to $X in 2022. The total consumption indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, consumption increased by +33.6% against 2018 indices. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Production of Brooms, Brushes, And Mops in CIS

In value terms, broom, brush, and mop production expanded remarkably to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production posted a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the production volume increased by 43%. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2021 to 2022, production growth remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, overseas shipments of brooms, brushes, and mops decreased by -7.7% to X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, exports, however, saw significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 96%. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

In value terms, broom, brush, and mop exports fell to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, saw buoyant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 123%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

Exports by Country

Belarus (X units) and Russia (X units) represented roughly 77% of total exports in 2022. Uzbekistan (X units) held the next position in the ranking, distantly followed by Armenia (X units). All these countries together held near 20% share of total exports. Moldova (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Uzbekistan (with a CAGR of +212.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest broom, brush, and mop supplier in the CIS, comprising 61% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belarus ($X), with a 20% share of total exports. It was followed by Uzbekistan, with a 7.2% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Russia totaled +17.8%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Belarus (+16.4% per year) and Uzbekistan (+172.6% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in the CIS stood at $X per unit in 2022, picking up by 2.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a perceptible setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the export price increased by 15%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per unit), while Belarus ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Moldova (+5.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in CIS

In 2022, broom, brush, and mop imports in the CIS reached X units, flattening at the year before. Total imports indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +25.4% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 48%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X units in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, broom, brush, and mop imports shrank modestly to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated temperate growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +19.0% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 55%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, Russia (X units) was the largest importer of brooms, brushes, and mops, making up 72% of total imports. Belarus (X units) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Kazakhstan (X units). All these countries together held near 19% share of total imports. Uzbekistan (X units), Azerbaijan (X units) and Kyrgyzstan (X units) held a little share of total imports.

Russia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of brooms, brushes, and mops. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+26.1%), Azerbaijan (+18.7%), Belarus (+15.4%), Kyrgyzstan (+8.1%) and Kazakhstan (+6.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +26.1% from 2012-2022. While the share of Belarus (+8 p.p.), Uzbekistan (+2.6 p.p.), Kazakhstan (+2 p.p.) and Azerbaijan (+1.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Russia (-16 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

The import price in the CIS stood at $X per unit in 2022, with a decrease of -5.6% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the import price increased by 14% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2018 to 2022, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per unit), while Belarus ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
