The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +51.9% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 32% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, plastic bottle exports soared to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a significant increase from 2020 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +27.0% over the last two years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +61.2% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 37% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Russia represented the main exporter of carboys, bottles and similar articles of plastics in the CIS, with the volume of exports amounting to X tons, which was approx. 49% of total exports in 2022. Kyrgyzstan (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 24% share, followed by Belarus (15%) and Kazakhstan (9.3%). Uzbekistan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Russia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the carboys, bottles and similar articles of plastics exports, with a CAGR of +5.3% from 2020 to 2022. Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Belarus (-13.6%) and Kazakhstan (-28.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Kyrgyzstan (+24 p.p.), Kazakhstan (+9.3 p.p.) and Uzbekistan (+2.5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Belarus and Russia saw its share reduced by -15% and -18% from 2020 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, the largest plastic bottle supplying countries in the CIS were Russia ($X), Belarus ($X) and Kyrgyzstan ($X), together comprising 89% of total exports. Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 9.6%.

Kazakhstan, with a CAGR of +33.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, growing by 2.1% against the previous year. Over the period from 2020 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.0%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the export price increased by 3.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per ton), while Kazakhstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2020 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kazakhstan (+86.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

For the third consecutive year, the CIS recorded growth in supplies from abroad of carboys, bottles and similar articles of plastics, which increased by 67% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a significant expansion. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, plastic bottle imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a significant increase from 2020 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +32.8% over the last two years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +76.3% against 2020 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Russia (X tons) and Kazakhstan (X tons) represented roughly 68% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Belarus (X tons), committing a 20% share of total imports. The following importers - Moldova (X tons), Azerbaijan (X tons), Armenia (X tons) and Uzbekistan (X tons) - together made up 11% of total imports.

From 2020 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Belarus (with a CAGR of +27.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported carboys, bottles and similar articles of plastics in the CIS, comprising 50% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belarus ($X), with a 22% share of total imports. It was followed by Kazakhstan, with a 16% share.
