From 2015 to 2021, production growth remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, the amount of caviar (salmon) and caviar substitutes exported in the CIS rose sharply to X tons, growing by 10% on 2020. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 21%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, caviar (salmon) and caviar substitutes exports soared to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 37% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
Exports by Country
Belarus was the largest exporter of caviar (salmon) and caviar substitutes in the CIS, with the volume of exports resulting at X tons, which was near 82% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Russia (X tons), achieving a 17% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to caviar (salmon) and caviar substitutes exports from Belarus stood at +2.3%. At the same time, Russia (+16.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Russia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +16.8% from 2012-2021. While the share of Russia (+11 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Belarus (-12.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, Belarus ($X) remains the largest caviar (salmon) and caviar substitutes supplier in the CIS, comprising 73% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Russia ($X), with a 25% share of total exports.
In Belarus, caviar (salmon) and caviar substitutes exports increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the period from 2012-2021.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2021, jumping by 20% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.1%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Belarus totaled $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belarus (+0.6%).

Imports in CIS
In 2021, after four years of growth, there was decline in supplies from abroad of caviar (salmon) and caviar substitutes, when their volume decreased by -1.3% to X tons. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 234%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2020, and then contracted modestly in the following year.
In value terms, caviar (salmon) and caviar substitutes imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 192%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
Russia prevails in imports structure, reaching X tons, which was approx. 94% of total imports in 2021. Kazakhstan (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.
Russia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the caviar (salmon) and caviar substitutes imports, with a CAGR of +27.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Kazakhstan (+8.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Russia (+19 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Kazakhstan saw its share reduced by -6.8% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported caviar (salmon) and caviar substitutes in the CIS, comprising 82% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 6.7% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Russia stood at +21.6%.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 18% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a pronounced curtailment. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Russia stood at $X per ton.
