In value terms, exports of cellular plates, sheets and films of polyymers of styrene shrank to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 66% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then declined in the following year.
Exports by Country
Russia dominates styrene structure, accounting for X tons, which was near 81% of total exports in 2022. Belarus (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Uzbekistan (X tons) and Kazakhstan (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 16% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to polystyrene cellular plates, sheets and films exports from Russia stood at +14.6%. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+360.8%), Kazakhstan (+17.7%) and Belarus (+5.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +360.8% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Uzbekistan increased by +5.6 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest polystyrene cellular plates, sheets and films supplier in the CIS, comprising 74% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belarus ($X), with an 11% share of total exports. It was followed by Uzbekistan, with a 6.8% share.
In Russia, exports of cellular plates, sheets and films of polyymers of styrene increased at an average annual rate of +8.6% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Belarus (+7.1% per year) and Uzbekistan (+301.6% per year).

In 2022, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, falling by -12.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a noticeable contraction. In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of cellular plates, sheets and films of polyymers of styrene, when their volume decreased by -8% to X tons. Total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +21.4% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 67% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of imports of failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, imports of cellular plates, sheets and films of polyymers of styrene rose to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +56.8% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 54%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Kazakhstan (X tons) and Kyrgyzstan (X tons) represented the main importers of cellular plates, sheets and films of polyymers of styrene in 2022, recording near 36% and 31% of total imports, respectively. Belarus (X tons) held the next position in the ranking, followed by Moldova (X tons), Russia (X tons) and Azerbaijan (X tons). All these countries together held near 26% share of total imports. Armenia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Armenia (with a CAGR of +29.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X), Kyrgyzstan ($X) and Belarus ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 71% of total imports. Moldova, Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 26%.
Among the main importing countries, Armenia, with a CAGR of +18.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, rising by 10% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a perceptible decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+2.3%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
