Other Cereals Market Size in CIS

In 2021, the CIS other cereals market decreased by -7% to $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In general, consumption continues to indicate a perceptible descent. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

Other Cereals Production in CIS

In value terms, other cereals production shrank to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production continues to indicate a deep contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 141% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production reached the peak level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The country with the largest volume of other cereals production was Belarus (X tons), comprising approx. 66% of total volume. Moreover, other cereals production in Belarus exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Kazakhstan (X tons), fourfold.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume in Belarus amounted to -2.6%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kazakhstan (+1.4% per year) and Russia (-3.4% per year).

The average other cereals yield fell modestly to X tons per ha in 2021, with a decrease of -4.7% on the previous year. Overall, the yield saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the yield increased by 30%. As a result, the yield attained the peak level of X tons per ha. Other cereals exports shrank remarkably to X tons in 2021, falling by -23.4% against the previous year's figure. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 424% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, other cereals exports contracted markedly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed buoyant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 467% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2020, and then declined dramatically in the following year.

Russia was the major exporting country with an export of around X tons, which recorded 75% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X tons), committing a 21% share of total exports. Azerbaijan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to other cereals exports from Russia stood at +14.0%. At the same time, Kazakhstan (+36.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kazakhstan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +36.2% from 2012-2021. Azerbaijan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan increased by +16 and +2 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest other cereals supplier in the CIS, comprising 75% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 14% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Russia stood at +13.8%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kazakhstan (+33.1% per year) and Azerbaijan (0.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -42% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a pronounced descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 81% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Azerbaijan ($X per ton), while Kazakhstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in CIS

In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in supplies from abroad of other cerealses, when their volume increased by 61% to X tons. Over the period under review, imports showed a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 441% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, other cereals imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports showed a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 171%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

The countries with the highest levels of other cereals imports in 2021 were Russia (X tons), Belarus (X tons) and Azerbaijan (X tons), together recording 85% of total import. It was distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X tons), committing a 10% share of total imports. Tajikistan (X tons) held a little share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Azerbaijan (with a CAGR of +198.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
