As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, dolomite exports totaled $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a perceptible expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 33%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

Belarus represented the major exporter of chalk and dolomite in the CIS, with the volume of exports accounting for X tons, which was near 68% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Russia (X tons), achieving a 30% share of total exports. Uzbekistan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to dolomite exports from Belarus stood at +35.5%. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+206.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +206.9% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Russia (-2.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Belarus and Uzbekistan increased by +58 and +1.5 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Russia ($X), Belarus ($X) and Uzbekistan ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 99% share of total exports.

Uzbekistan, with a CAGR of +191.7%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

In 2021, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 16% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a abrupt downturn. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (-1.8%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of chalk and dolomite was finally on the rise to reach X tons after three years of decline. Overall, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 32%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, dolomite imports expanded to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, showed a pronounced setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 37% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Russia (X tons) and Belarus (X tons) were the largest importers of chalk and dolomite in 2021, accounting for approx. 37% and 27% of total imports, respectively. Azerbaijan (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 14% share, followed by Armenia (11%) and Kazakhstan (5%). The following importers - Moldova (X tons) and Uzbekistan (X tons) - each reached a 3.3% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Uzbekistan (with a CAGR of +38.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported chalk and dolomite in the CIS, comprising 46% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belarus ($X), with a 20% share of total imports. It was followed by Armenia, with an 11% share.

In Russia, dolomite imports declined by an average annual rate of -1.8% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belarus (-8.7% per year) and Armenia (-5.1% per year).

The import price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2021, declining by -5.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a noticeable downturn.
