Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

While the share of Belarus (+4.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Russia (-5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Belarus ($X) remains the largest cheese and curd supplier in the CIS, comprising 90% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Russia ($X), with a 7.5% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Belarus stood at +8.5%.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 3.1% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 22%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per ton), while Russia totaled $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belarus (-0.4%).

Imports in CIS

After six years of growth, supplies from abroad of cheese and curd decreased by -1% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a slight reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 15%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, cheese and curd imports amounted to $X in 2022. Overall, imports showed a perceptible decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 24%. Russia prevails in imports structure, resulting at X tons, which was near 82% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X tons), committing a 9.1% share of total imports. The following importers - Azerbaijan (X tons), Moldova (X tons), Uzbekistan (X tons) and Belarus (X tons) - each accounted for a 7.3% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to cheese and curd imports into Russia stood at -2.3%. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+39.7%), Moldova (+8.3%), Belarus (+6.1%), Kazakhstan (+4.6%) and Azerbaijan (+3.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +39.7% from 2012-2022. Kazakhstan (+3.9 p.p.) and Uzbekistan (+1.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Russia saw its share reduced by -9.1% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported cheese and curd in the CIS, comprising 81% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 10% share of total imports. It was followed by Moldova, with a 2.4% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Russia stood at -3.6%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kazakhstan (+4.6% per year) and Moldova (+10.9% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 1.9% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a slight slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 22%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Moldova ($X per ton) and Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Azerbaijan ($X per ton) and Russia ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
