The average chicken meat yield rose to X kg per head in 2021, increasing by 3.6% on 2020. The yield figure increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the yield reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, the number of animals slaughtered for chicken meat production in the CIS fell slightly to X heads, which is down by -2% compared with 2020 figures. In 2021, overseas shipments of chicken meat decreased by -1.4% to X tons for the first time since 2016, thus ending a four-year rising trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 56% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2020, and then contracted modestly in the following year.

In value terms, chicken meat exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, recorded a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 41% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

Russia was the key exporting country with an export of around X tons, which accounted for 58% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Belarus (X tons), constituting a 39% share of total exports. Kazakhstan (X tons) held a relatively small share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Russia (with a CAGR of +30.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Russia ($X), Belarus ($X) and Kazakhstan ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together accounting for 100% of total exports.

Russia, with a CAGR of +35.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a pronounced descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 an increase of 23% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, the amount of chicken meat imported in the CIS reached X tons, surging by 7.2% compared with 2020. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 27% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, chicken meat imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced downturn. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Russia (X tons), distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X tons), Uzbekistan (X tons), Kyrgyzstan (X tons), Armenia (X tons) and Azerbaijan (X tons) represented the main importers of chicken meat, together generating 91% of total imports. Belarus (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Uzbekistan (with a CAGR of +101.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported chicken meat in the CIS, comprising 49% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 20% share of total imports. It was followed by Uzbekistan, with a 7% share.

In Russia, chicken meat imports plunged by an average annual rate of -7.1% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Kazakhstan (-1.4% per year) and Uzbekistan (+114.7% per year).
