Production of Cider, Perry, Mead And Other Fermented Beverages in CIS

In value terms, cider, perry and mead production dropped to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. The total production indicated tangible growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production increased by +101.7% against 2015 indices. In 2021, approx. X litres of cider, perry, mead and other fermented beverages were exported in the CIS; rising by 26% compared with the previous year. Overall, exports enjoyed a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 51%. The volume of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.

In value terms, cider, perry and mead exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports recorded strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 40% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Exports by Country

The shipments of the three major exporters of cider, perry, mead and other fermented beverages, namely Russia, Belarus and Armenia, represented more than two-thirds of total export. It was distantly followed by Moldova (X litres), mixing up an 11% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Russia (with a CAGR of +23.0%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest cider, perry and mead supplying countries in the CIS were Armenia ($X), Russia ($X) and Moldova ($X), with a combined 84% share of total exports.

Russia, with a CAGR of +30.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The export price in the CIS stood at $X per litre in 2021, growing by 5.1% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a slight reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 43% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per litre in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Armenia ($X per litre), while Belarus ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+6.4%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in CIS

After five years of growth, overseas purchases of cider, perry, mead and other fermented beverages decreased by -7.6% to X litres in 2021. Total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 32% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X litres in 2020, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, cider, perry and mead imports soared to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 49% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Russia represented the key importing country with an import of around X litres, which finished at 81% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Belarus (X litres) and Kazakhstan (X litres), together mixing up a 19% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to cider, perry and mead imports into Russia stood at +5.0%. At the same time, Belarus (+35.8%) and Kazakhstan (+17.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +35.8% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Belarus and Kazakhstan increased by +10 and +3.8 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported cider, perry, mead and other fermented beverages in the CIS, comprising 82% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belarus ($X), with a 10% share of total imports.

In Russia, cider, perry and mead imports expanded at an average annual rate of +3.8% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belarus (+34.8% per year) and Kazakhstan (+12.1% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per litre, growing by 34% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a slight setback. The level of import peaked at $X per litre in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per litre), while Belarus ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belarus (-0.7%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
