The CIS coarse animal hair market soared to $X in 2022, growing by 37% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, continues to indicate a noticeable downturn. After two years of growth, overseas shipments of coarse animal hair decreased by -41.4% to X tons in 2022. Overall, exports, however, posted a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 148% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons, and then contracted dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, coarse animal hair exports declined rapidly to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 99%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021, and then shrank sharply in the following year.

Kazakhstan prevails in exports structure, finishing at X tons, which was approx. 82% of total exports in 2022. Tajikistan (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Kyrgyzstan (X tons). All these countries together held near 17% share of total exports.

Kazakhstan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the coarse animal hair exports, with a CAGR of +10.5% from 2012 to 2022. Kyrgyzstan (-11.6%) and Tajikistan (-11.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Kazakhstan (+32 p.p.) and Tajikistan (+8.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Kyrgyzstan saw its share reduced by -39.4% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) remains the largest coarse animal hair supplier in the CIS, comprising 87% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Tajikistan ($X), with a 7.7% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Kazakhstan amounted to +2.6%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Tajikistan (-3.7% per year) and Kyrgyzstan (-16.2% per year).

In 2022, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, growing by 26% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a perceptible setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 49%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Tajikistan (+9.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2022, supplies from abroad of coarse animal hair increased by 254% to X tons, rising for the third consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, imports recorded perceptible growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 3,895%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, coarse animal hair imports shrank remarkably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 356% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Kazakhstan prevails in imports structure, finishing at X tons, which was near 98% of total imports in 2022. Belarus (X kg) took a minor share of total imports.

Kazakhstan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the coarse animal hair imports, with a CAGR of +156.8% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Belarus (+32.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. While the share of Kazakhstan (+98 p.p.) and Belarus (+2 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Belarus ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported coarse animal hair in the CIS, comprising 85% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 15% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Belarus amounted to +43.3%.

In 2022, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, falling by -85.5% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a deep setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the import price increased by 10,206%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per ton), while Kazakhstan amounted to $X per ton.
