In 2021, overseas purchases of cocoa powder (containing added sugar) increased by 26% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after three years of decline. Over the period under review, imports showed a moderate expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 141%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, cocoa powder with sugar imports expanded rapidly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, saw a mild curtailment. Kyrgyzstan, with a CAGR of +23.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
