In value terms, colour lake exports rose significantly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports enjoyed prominent growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 142% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, Armenia (X tons) represented the main exporter of colour lakes, preparations based on colour lakes, making up 64% of total exports. Russia (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 31% share, followed by Belarus (4.8%).

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to colour lake exports from Armenia stood at +17.1%. At the same time, Belarus (+67.0%) and Russia (+4.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Belarus, with a CAGR of +50.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, almost unchanged from the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the export price increased by 61%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Armenia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+2.6%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

After two years of decline, supplies from abroad of colour lakes, preparations based on colour lakes increased by 25% to X tons in 2021. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 38%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, colour lake imports soared to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a mild increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -2.0% against 2019 indices. The level of import peaked at $X in 2019; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.

Imports by Country

Russia was the largest importer of colour lakes, preparations based on colour lakes in the CIS, with the volume of imports resulting at X tons, which was near 70% of total imports in 2021. Belarus (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with an 11% share, followed by Kazakhstan (10%) and Uzbekistan (6.1%).

Russia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of colour lakes, preparations based on colour lakes. At the same time, Kazakhstan (+31.7%) and Uzbekistan (+16.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kazakhstan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +31.7% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Belarus (-8.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Russia, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan increased by +19, +9.6 and +6.1 percentage points, respectively.

In 2021, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 3.2% against the previous year. Import price indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, colour lake import price increased by +33.0% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 29%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
