Exports in CIS

In 2022, the amount of common pottery exported in the CIS skyrocketed to X tons, growing by 105% against the previous year's figure. Overall, exports posted a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 277% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, common pottery exports reduced to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a buoyant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 70%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

Exports by Country

Uzbekistan was the major exporter of common pottery in the CIS, with the volume of exports recording X tons, which was near 74% of total exports in 2022. Belarus (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Russia (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 25% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to common pottery exports from Uzbekistan stood at +24.5%. At the same time, Belarus (+36.4%) and Russia (+12.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +36.4% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Uzbekistan and Belarus increased by +74 and +9.5 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, the largest common pottery supplying countries in the CIS were Uzbekistan ($X), Russia ($X) and Belarus ($X), with a combined 98% share of total exports.

Uzbekistan, with a CAGR of +31.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -58.2% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 68%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then contracted significantly in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Uzbekistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+5.6%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

In 2022, the amount of common pottery imported in the CIS declined slightly to X tons, approximately mirroring the previous year's figure. Total imports indicated a modest expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +22.0% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 46%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, common pottery imports fell to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a modest expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +30.7% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 66%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Russia represented the main importing country with an import of about X tons, which amounted to 48% of total imports. Kazakhstan (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 19% share, followed by Kyrgyzstan (11%), Azerbaijan (9%) and Belarus (4.5%). The following importers - Armenia (X tons) and Uzbekistan (X tons) - each reached a 6.7% share of total imports.

Imports into Russia decreased at an average annual rate of -2.9% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Kyrgyzstan (+23.9%), Uzbekistan (+19.9%), Belarus (+16.1%), Kazakhstan (+13.2%) and Azerbaijan (+9.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kyrgyzstan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +23.9% from 2012-2022. Armenia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan, Belarus and Uzbekistan increased by +12, +9.2, +4.5, +3.3 and +3.3 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported common pottery in the CIS, comprising 55% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Azerbaijan, with an 8.3% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Russia totaled -2.6%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Kazakhstan (+12.2% per year) and Azerbaijan (+24.9% per year).

The import price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2022, declining by -3% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 14% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
