Concentrated Apple Juice Market Size in CIS

After two years of decline, the CIS concentrated apple juice market increased by 21% to $X in 2021. Overall, consumption, however, recorded a deep setback. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

Concentrated Apple Juice Production in CIS

In value terms, concentrated apple juice production fell to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, saw a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the production volume increased by 15% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports in CIS

In 2021, approx. X tons of concentrated apple juice were exported in the CIS; almost unchanged from 2020 figures. In general, exports, however, recorded a remarkable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 80%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, concentrated apple juice exports expanded remarkably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 119% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Moldova was the largest exporter of concentrated apple juice in the CIS, with the volume of exports accounting for X tons, which was near 75% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Uzbekistan (X tons), achieving a 14% share of total exports. The following exporters - Russia (X tons), Belarus (X tons) and Azerbaijan (X tons) - together made up 10% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to concentrated apple juice exports from Moldova stood at +8.6%. At the same time, Belarus (+10.7%), Azerbaijan (+7.7%) and Russia (+4.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +10.7% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Uzbekistan (-1.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Uzbekistan increased by +14 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Moldova ($X) remains the largest concentrated apple juice supplier in the CIS, comprising 69% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Uzbekistan ($X), with a 19% share of total exports. It was followed by Belarus, with a 5.1% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Moldova totaled +4.1%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Uzbekistan (+11.1% per year) and Belarus (+12.3% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 13% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a perceptible shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 37%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in Uzbekistan ($X per ton) and Belarus ($X per ton), while Moldova ($X per ton) and Azerbaijan ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+12.5%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in CIS

In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in supplies from abroad of concentrated apple juice, when their volume increased by 20% to X tons. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 26%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, concentrated apple juice imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, recorded a deep downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Russia dominates imports structure, accounting for X tons, which was near 87% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Belarus (X tons), committing a 7.6% share of total imports. Kazakhstan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to concentrated apple juice imports into Russia stood at -4.0%. At the same time, Belarus (+8.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +8.4% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Kazakhstan (-9.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Belarus (+5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Kazakhstan (-2.8 p.p.) and Russia (-3.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported concentrated apple juice in the CIS, comprising 84% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belarus ($X), with an 8.2% share of total imports.

In Russia, concentrated apple juice imports shrank by an average annual rate of -8.2% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Belarus (+3.7% per year) and Kazakhstan (-10.3% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 1.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a perceptible descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 6%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
