In value terms, contact lense exports declined markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 446%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then contracted markedly in the following year.

Belarus was the largest exporter of contact lenses in the CIS, with the volume of exports reaching X units, which was near 75% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Russia (X units), creating a 23% share of total exports. Kazakhstan (X units) took a minor share of total exports.

Belarus was also the fastest-growing in terms of the contact lenses exports, with a CAGR of +125.2% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Russia (+6.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Kazakhstan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Belarus and Kazakhstan increased by +75 and +1.9 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Belarus ($X), Russia ($X) and Kazakhstan ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined 100% share of total exports.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Belarus, with a CAGR of +72.8%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The export price in the CIS stood at $X per unit in 2022, shrinking by -46.8% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a noticeable shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the export price increased by 90% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit, and then fell markedly in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per unit), while Kazakhstan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+5.3%).

Contact lense imports fell remarkably to X units in 2022, shrinking by -32.7% on 2021. In general, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, contact lense imports dropped to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed a measured increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 66% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Russia dominates imports structure, recording X units, which was approx. 88% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X units), mixing up an 8.4% share of total imports. Belarus (X units) held a little share of total imports.

Imports into Russia decreased at an average annual rate of -1.2% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Kazakhstan (+34.2%) and Belarus (+12.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kazakhstan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +34.2% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Kazakhstan and Belarus increased by +7.9 and +2.3 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported contact lenses in the CIS, comprising 85% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belarus ($X), with an 8.6% share of total imports.

In Russia, contact lense imports increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belarus (+5.1% per year) and Kazakhstan (+10.2% per year).

Import price indicated a perceptible increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, contact lense import price increased by +96.2% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the import price increased by 45% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per unit), while Kazakhstan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+4.0%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
