Belarus was the largest exporter of contact lenses in the CIS, with the volume of exports reaching X units, which was near 75% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Russia (X units), creating a 23% share of total exports. Kazakhstan (X units) took a minor share of total exports.

Belarus was also the fastest-growing in terms of the contact lenses exports, with a CAGR of +125.2% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Russia (+6.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. The export price in the CIS stood at $X per unit in 2022, shrinking by -46.8% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a noticeable shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the export price increased by 90% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit, and then fell markedly in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per unit), while Kazakhstan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

Contact lense imports fell remarkably to X units in 2022, shrinking by -32.7% on 2021. In general, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 127%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, contact lense imports dropped to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed a measured increase. Russia dominates imports structure, recording X units, which was approx. 88% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X units), mixing up an 8.4% share of total imports. Belarus (X units) held a little share of total imports.

Imports into Russia decreased at an average annual rate of -1.2% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Kazakhstan (+34.2%) and Belarus (+12.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kazakhstan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +34.2% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Kazakhstan and Belarus increased by +7.9 and +2.3 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported contact lenses in the CIS, comprising 85% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belarus ($X), with an 8.6% share of total imports.

In Russia, contact lense imports increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belarus (+5.1% per year) and Kazakhstan (+10.2% per year).
