From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Uzbekistan (with a CAGR of +101.4%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.
In value terms, the largest copper bar, rod and profile supplying countries in the CIS were Russia ($X), Uzbekistan ($X) and Azerbaijan ($X), with a combined 96% share of total exports.
Among the main exporting countries, Uzbekistan, with a CAGR of +119.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

In 2022, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -19.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a slight slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the export price increased by 69% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then reduced notably in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Azerbaijan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Azerbaijan (+14.5%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

In 2022, purchases abroad of copper bars, rods and profiles decreased by -6.4% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports saw a abrupt setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 191% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, copper bar, rod and profile imports dropped dramatically to $X in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a abrupt descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 107% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Belarus (X tons) was the key importer of copper bars, rods and profiles, achieving 51% of total imports. Russia (X tons) held a 22% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Kazakhstan (19%) and Uzbekistan (4.7%). Armenia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Imports into Belarus decreased at an average annual rate of -2.5% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+16.0%) and Kazakhstan (+3.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +16.0% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Armenia (-2.5%) and Russia (-19.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Belarus (+27 p.p.), Kazakhstan (+14 p.p.) and Uzbekistan (+4.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Russia (-46.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Belarus ($X), Russia ($X) and Kazakhstan ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 93% of total imports. Uzbekistan and Armenia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 5.5%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Uzbekistan, with a CAGR of +15.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, waning by -10.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 an increase of 33% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+4.8%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
