In 2021, shipments abroad of copper bars, wire and plates increased by 50% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, exports, however, saw a deep downturn. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country
In 2021, Russia (X tons) was the major exporter of copper bars, wire and plates, mixing up 87% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Uzbekistan (X tons), generating a 12% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to copper bars, wire and plates exports from Russia stood at -7.1%. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+2.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +2.9% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Uzbekistan increased by +12 percentage points.
In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest copper bars, wire and plates supplier in the CIS, comprising 86% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Uzbekistan ($X), with a 13% share of total exports.
In Russia, copper bars, wire and plates exports shrank by an average annual rate of -5.6% over the period from 2012-2021.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 56% against the previous year. Export price indicated a mild expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per ton), while Russia amounted to $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+11.5%).
Imports of Copper Bars, Wire And Plates
Imports in CIS
After two years of decline, overseas purchases of copper bars, wire and plates increased by 4.1% to X tons in 2021. In general, imports, however, showed a perceptible reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 28%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, copper bars, wire and plates imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a noticeable reduction. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Belarus represented the major importing country with an import of around X tons, which finished at 51% of total imports. Russia (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Moldova (X tons), Kazakhstan (X tons) and Azerbaijan (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 43% share of total imports. Uzbekistan (X tons) and Armenia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to copper bars, wire and plates imports into Belarus stood at -4.7%. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+169.0%), Moldova (+41.2%), Armenia (+15.1%) and Kazakhstan (+5.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +169.0% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Azerbaijan (-6.3%) and Russia (-12.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Moldova (+13 p.p.), Kazakhstan (+4.7 p.p.) and Uzbekistan (+3.3 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Russia (-21.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Belarus ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported copper bars, wire and plates in the CIS, comprising 50% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Russia ($X), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by Moldova, with a 13% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Belarus amounted to -3.2%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Russia (-10.6% per year) and Moldova (+42.5% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, growing by 38% against the previous year. Import price indicated a slight expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, copper bars, wire and plates import price increased by +42.7% against 2019 indices. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Russia ($X per ton) and Uzbekistan ($X per ton), while Armenia ($X per ton) and Kazakhstan ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+2.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
