Kazakhstan represented the main exporting country with an export of about X tons, which resulted at 75% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Tajikistan (X tons) and Russia (X tons), together achieving a 25% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to cotton (carded or combed) exports from Kazakhstan stood at -9.9%. At the same time, Russia (+18.8%) and Tajikistan (+16.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Russia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +18.8% from 2012-2022. In Kazakhstan, cotton (carded or combed) exports contracted by an average annual rate of -3.5% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Russia (+15.8% per year) and Tajikistan (+15.1% per year).

Over the period under review, imports showed a prominent increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when imports increased by 139% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, cotton (carded or combed) imports surged to $X in 2022. In general, imports saw a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 91%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
