In 2021, the CIS cotton-seed oil market increased by 5.1% to $X, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. In general, consumption, however, saw a abrupt descent. Kazakhstan was the main exporter of cotton-seed oil in the CIS, with the volume of exports accounting for X tons, which was approx. 61% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Azerbaijan (X tons), generating a 39% share of total exports.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Azerbaijan stood at $X per ton.

In 2021, purchases abroad of cotton-seed oil decreased by -51.8% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after three years of growth. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 244% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, cotton-seed oil imports fell markedly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, saw a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 213%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Kyrgyzstan (X tons), Tajikistan (X tons) and Uzbekistan (X tons) represented roughly 96% of total imports in 2021. Russia (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Russia (with a CAGR of +23.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Kyrgyzstan ($X), Uzbekistan ($X) and Tajikistan ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 96% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Russia, which accounted for a further 2.3%.

Russia, with a CAGR of +14.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 53% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton), while Tajikistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+13.6%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
