The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +115.6% against 2012 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 25%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, crispbread, rusk and toasted bread exports declined to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 19% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then dropped in the following year.

Exports by Country

Russia dominates exports structure, resulting at X tons, which was approx. 95% of total exports in 2022. The following exporters - Kazakhstan (X tons) and Belarus (X tons) - each accounted for a 3.5% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to crispbread, rusk and toasted bread exports from Russia stood at +10.3%. At the same time, Kazakhstan (+29.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kazakhstan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +29.2% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Belarus (-14.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Russia (+18 p.p.) and Kazakhstan (+1.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Belarus (-15.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest crispbread, rusk and toasted bread supplier in the CIS, comprising 93% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 2.8% share of total exports.

In Russia, crispbread, rusk and toasted bread exports increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kazakhstan (+31.1% per year) and Belarus (-10.4% per year).

In 2022, supplies from abroad of crispbread, rusks and toasted bread increased by 3.2% to X tons, rising for the sixth consecutive year after two years of decline. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 11%. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, crispbread, rusk and toasted bread imports expanded sharply to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Russia was the main importer of crispbread, rusks and toasted bread in the CIS, with the volume of imports amounting to X tons, which was approx. 44% of total imports in 2022. Kazakhstan (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 24% share, followed by Belarus (14%) and Uzbekistan (5.5%). The following importers - Kyrgyzstan (X tons), Moldova (X tons) and Azerbaijan (X tons) - together made up 11% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Uzbekistan (with a CAGR of +47.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest crispbread, rusk and toasted bread importing markets in the CIS were Russia ($X), Kazakhstan ($X) and Belarus ($X), with a combined 79% share of total imports. Moldova, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Azerbaijan lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 19%.

Uzbekistan, with a CAGR of +69.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, rising by 6.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a perceptible shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 7.1%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Moldova ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
