In 2021, the CIS cotton-seed oil market decreased by -24.1% to $X, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. The total consumption indicated mild growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, consumption decreased by -29.9% against 2019 indices. In value terms, cotton-seed oil production dropped to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. The total production indicated mild growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production increased by +53.6% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 41% against the previous year. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X, and then shrank in the following year.

Exports in CIS
In 2021, exports of crude cotton-seed oil in the CIS stood at X tons, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year's figure. In general, exports showed a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 151% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
In value terms, cotton-seed oil exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports enjoyed perceptible growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 117% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Uzbekistan represented the main exporter of crude cotton-seed oil in the CIS, with the volume of exports reaching X tons, which was approx. 58% of total exports in 2021. Azerbaijan (X tons) took a 29% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Kazakhstan (13%).
Exports from Uzbekistan increased at an average annual rate of +86.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Azerbaijan (+92.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Azerbaijan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +92.0% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Kazakhstan (-12.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Uzbekistan (+58 p.p.) and Azerbaijan (+29 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Kazakhstan (-86.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, Uzbekistan ($X), Kazakhstan ($X) and Azerbaijan ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 99.9% share of total exports.
Among the main exporting countries, Azerbaijan, with a CAGR of +84.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 25% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a pronounced setback. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Uzbekistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kazakhstan (+5.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in CIS
In 2021, overseas purchases of crude cotton-seed oil decreased by -45.4% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after three years of growth. Overall, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 92%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, cotton-seed oil imports plummeted to $X in 2021. In general, imports showed a noticeable decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 88%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Kyrgyzstan (X tons) and Tajikistan (X tons) represented the key importers of crude cotton-seed oil in the CIS, together amounting to near 80% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Uzbekistan (X tons), mixing up an 18% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Tajikistan (with a CAGR of +15.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.
In value terms, Kyrgyzstan ($X), Tajikistan ($X) and Uzbekistan ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 98% of total imports.
Among the main importing countries, Tajikistan, with a CAGR of +9.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 9.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a pronounced downturn. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton), while Uzbekistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kyrgyzstan (-4.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
