In 2022, the CIS crude maize oil market decreased by -1% to $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, consumption, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2021, and then shrank modestly in the following year.

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 2,192% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, crude maize oil exports dropped to $X in 2022. In general, exports faced a abrupt slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when exports increased by 4,617%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Belarus was the key exporting country with an export of around X tons, which finished at 79% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Russia (X tons), constituting a 21% share of total exports.

Belarus was also the fastest-growing in terms of the crude maize (corn) oil exports, with a CAGR of +89.0% from 2012 to 2022. Russia (-29.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Belarus increased by +79 percentage points.

In value terms, Belarus ($X) remains the largest crude maize oil supplier in the CIS, comprising 76% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Russia ($X), with a 24% share of total exports.

In 2022, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 2.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the export price increased by 142%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Belarus amounted to $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+1.8%).

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of crude maize (corn) oil, when their volume decreased by -24.2% to X tons. Overall, imports continue to indicate a abrupt downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 25%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, crude maize oil imports fell to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a pronounced expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 90%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

The countries with the highest levels of crude maize oil imports in 2022 were Azerbaijan (X tons), together accounting for 100% of total import.

Azerbaijan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the crude maize (corn) oil imports, with a CAGR of -6.2% from 2012 to 2022. Azerbaijan (+8.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
