Exports in CIS

In 2022, approx. X tons of crude palm oil were exported in the CIS; rising by 40% on 2021 figures. In general, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 228%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, crude palm oil exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 205% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Russia prevails in exports structure, recording X tons, which was near 98% of total exports in 2022. Kazakhstan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Russia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the crude palm oil exports, with a CAGR of +1.6% from 2012 to 2022. Kazakhstan (-15.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Russia (+12 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Kazakhstan saw its share reduced by -11.7% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest crude palm oil supplier in the CIS, comprising 94% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 6.1% share of total exports.

The export price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2022, reducing by -16.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 59% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then dropped remarkably in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Russia stood at $X per ton.

In 2022, overseas purchases of crude palm oil were finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, crude palm oil imports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed resilient growth. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

The countries with the highest levels of crude palm oil imports in 2022 were Azerbaijan (X tons), together recording 99% of total import.

Azerbaijan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the crude palm oil imports, with a CAGR of +3.4% from 2012 to 2022. While the share of Azerbaijan (+8.8 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Azerbaijan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported crude palm oil in the CIS.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 30% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 43%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.
