Exports by Country
In 2022, Russia (X tons) represented the largest exporter of dextrins and other modified starches, mixing up 76% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Belarus (X tons), making up a 20% share of total exports. Kazakhstan (X tons) took a relatively small share of total exports.
Exports from Russia increased at an average annual rate of +9.4% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Belarus (+50.8%) and Kazakhstan (+38.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 13% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2021, and then dropped slightly in the following year.
In value terms, modified starches imports contracted modestly to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 18% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.
Imports by Country
Russia prevails in imports structure, resulting at X tons, which was approx. 86% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X tons), making up a 5% share of total imports. Belarus (X tons) and Uzbekistan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to modified starches imports into Russia stood at +1.9%. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+16.3%), Kazakhstan (+8.1%) and Belarus (+4.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +16.3% from 2012-2022. While the share of Uzbekistan (+3.3 p.p.) and Kazakhstan (+2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Russia (-7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported dextrins and other modified starches in the CIS, comprising 82% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 5.8% share of total imports. It was followed by Belarus, with a 5.1% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Russia amounted to +2.8%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Kazakhstan (+7.9% per year) and Belarus (+0.5% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2022, remaining stable against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 6.9%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.
