Exports from Russia increased at an average annual rate of +10.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Azerbaijan (+100.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Azerbaijan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +100.0% from 2012-2021. Belarus experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Kazakhstan (-66.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Kazakhstan (+3.6 p.p.), Azerbaijan (+3.6 p.p.) and Belarus (+1.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Russia (-4.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest diesel-electric locomotive supplier in the CIS, comprising 97% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 2.4% share of total exports. It was followed by Azerbaijan, with a 0.1% share.

In Russia, diesel-electric locomotive exports increased at an average annual rate of +11.0% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Kazakhstan (+10.9% per year) and Azerbaijan (+49.1% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in the CIS stood at $X per unit in 2021, rising by 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a mild decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 116%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

The import price in the CIS stood at $X per unit in 2021, waning by -37% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a abrupt slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the import price increased by 144%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
