In 2022, approx. X tons of plastic tableware and kitchenware were exported in the CIS; growing by 2.3% compared with the year before. In general, exports continue to indicate a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 38% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2020; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.

In value terms, plastic tableware and kitchenware exports amounted to $X in 2022. Overall, exports recorded a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 31%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Russia represented the largest exporter of plastic tableware and kitchenware in the CIS, with the volume of exports accounting for X tons, which was near 70% of total exports in 2022. Belarus (X tons) took a 19% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Uzbekistan (5.7%). Kazakhstan (X tons) held a relatively small share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to plastic tableware and kitchenware exports from Russia stood at +9.9%. At the same time, Kazakhstan (+19.2%) and Belarus (+8.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kazakhstan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +19.2% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Uzbekistan (-7.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Uzbekistan increased by +5.7 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest plastic tableware and kitchenware supplier in the CIS, comprising 69% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belarus ($X), with a 22% share of total exports. It was followed by Uzbekistan, with a 3.1% share.

In Russia, plastic tableware and kitchenware exports increased at an average annual rate of +7.0% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Belarus (+11.8% per year) and Uzbekistan (-1.6% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, leveling off at the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a slight downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the export price increased by 34%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Uzbekistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+6.2%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in CIS

In 2022, imports of plastic tableware and kitchenware in the CIS shrank slightly to X tons, which is down by -4.9% against the previous year's figure. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 28%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then reduced modestly in the following year.

In value terms, plastic tableware and kitchenware imports shrank modestly to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a mild increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +21.7% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 33%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2021, and then fell slightly in the following year.

Imports by Country

Russia was the key importer of plastic tableware and kitchenware in the CIS, with the volume of imports reaching X tons, which was approx. 55% of total imports in 2022. Kazakhstan (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Belarus (X tons) and Azerbaijan (X tons). All these countries together held near 33% share of total imports. Armenia (X tons), Uzbekistan (X tons) and Moldova (X tons) took a little share of total imports.

Russia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of plastic tableware and kitchenware. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+43.4%), Armenia (+9.3%), Belarus (+6.1%), Kazakhstan (+3.9%) and Azerbaijan (+1.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +43.4% from 2012-2022. Moldova experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. While the share of Kazakhstan (+4.2 p.p.), Belarus (+3.5 p.p.), Uzbekistan (+2.9 p.p.) and Armenia (+2.4 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Russia (-7.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported plastic tableware and kitchenware in the CIS, comprising 61% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by Belarus, with an 8.9% share.

In Russia, plastic tableware and kitchenware imports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Kazakhstan (+3.3% per year) and Belarus (+3.0% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2022, remaining constant against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 6.2%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Moldova ($X per ton), while Uzbekistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
