Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

In value terms, dried grapes exports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, exports enjoyed a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 6,386%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Uzbekistan prevails in exports structure, recording X tons, which was approx. 95% of total exports in 2022. The following exporters - Kazakhstan (X tons) and Russia (X tons) - each accounted for a 3.8% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to dried grapes exports from Uzbekistan stood at +1.5%. At the same time, Kazakhstan (+24.5%) and Russia (+21.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kazakhstan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +24.5% from 2012-2022. While the share of Uzbekistan (+95 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Russia (-8 p.p.) and Kazakhstan (-8.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Uzbekistan ($X) remains the largest dried grapes supplier in the CIS, comprising 97% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Russia ($X), with a 1.8% share of total exports.

In Uzbekistan, dried grapes exports increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Russia (+11.9% per year) and Kazakhstan (+8.5% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -29% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the export price increased by 63%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Kazakhstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+4.9%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Over the period under review, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 39% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Belarus (X tons) and Armenia (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.

Kazakhstan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the dried grapes imports, with a CAGR of +12.5% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Azerbaijan (+12.4%) and Armenia (+1.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Belarus experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Russia (-11.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Kazakhstan (+44 p.p.) and Azerbaijan (+4.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Russia (-49.9 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X), Kazakhstan ($X) and Azerbaijan ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 86% of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, Azerbaijan, with a CAGR of +29.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2022, declining by -16.9% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 18% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Armenia ($X per ton), while Kazakhstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Azerbaijan (+15.2%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
