Overall, consumption, however, saw a noticeable contraction. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, dried or salted fish exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 147%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
In 2021, Belarus (X tons) and Russia (X tons) represented the main exporters of dried or salted fish in the CIS, together generating 85% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X tons), committing a 15% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Belarus (with a CAGR of +27.2%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.
In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest dried or salted fish supplier in the CIS, comprising 70% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belarus ($X), with a 17% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Russia totaled -12.9%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Belarus (+21.8% per year) and Kazakhstan (+7.5% per year).

The export price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2021, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the export price increased by 25%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of dried or salted fish increased by 7.7% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. In general, imports, however, saw a noticeable curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 19%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, dried or salted fish imports expanded modestly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a noticeable decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when imports increased by 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Russia (X tons) was the main importer of dried or salted fish, mixing up 85% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Belarus (X tons), generating an 11% share of total imports. Kazakhstan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Imports into Russia decreased at an average annual rate of -4.0% from 2012 to 2021. Belarus experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Kazakhstan (-1.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Belarus (+2.7 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported dried or salted fish in the CIS, comprising 85% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belarus ($X), with a 9.5% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Russia totaled -3.7%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belarus (-10.3% per year) and Kazakhstan (-4.5% per year).

In 2021, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -4.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the import price increased by 25%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
