Total exports indicated noticeable growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -34.6% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 70%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, Belarus (X tons) represented the largest exporter of dried or smoked fish, generating 75% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Russia (X tons), achieving a 20% share of total exports. Kazakhstan (X tons) took a little share of total exports.

Belarus was also the fastest-growing in terms of the dried or smoked fish exports, with a CAGR of +25.0% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Kazakhstan (+16.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Russia (-9.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -0.9% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 44%. Russia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the dried or smoked fish imports, with a CAGR of +8.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Kazakhstan (+5.7%) and Belarus (+3.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. While the share of Russia (+3.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Belarus (-2.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
