In 2021, the amount of electrical capacitors exported in the CIS reduced sharply to X tons, waning by -24.3% against the year before. In general, exports recorded a abrupt shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 33%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, capacitor exports expanded rapidly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports showed a mild setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 21%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Kazakhstan (X tons) represented the largest exporter of electrical capacitors, generating 62% of total exports. Russia (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Belarus (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 37% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to capacitor exports from Kazakhstan stood at -6.4%. At the same time, Belarus (+16.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +16.3% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Russia (-6.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Belarus (+10 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Russia and Kazakhstan saw its share reduced by -4.5% and -7.6% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, the largest capacitor supplying countries in the CIS were Belarus ($X), Russia ($X) and Kazakhstan ($X), together comprising 99% of total exports.

Belarus, with a CAGR of +2.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 49% against the previous year. Export price indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, capacitor export price increased by +29.1% against 2017 indices. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per ton), while Kazakhstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+5.7%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in CIS

In 2021, approx. X tons of electrical capacitors were imported in the CIS; picking up by 2.5% compared with 2020. Overall, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 55% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, capacitor imports soared to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +39.1% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 61% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

Russia was the major importer of electrical capacitors in the CIS, with the volume of imports accounting for X tons, which was near 76% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Belarus (X tons) and Uzbekistan (X tons), together comprising an 18% share of total imports. Kazakhstan (X tons) took a little share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to capacitor imports into Russia stood at -1.2%. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+231.9%) and Kazakhstan (+10.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +231.9% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Belarus (-2.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Uzbekistan (+7.4 p.p.) and Kazakhstan (+1.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Belarus (-2.5 p.p.) and Russia (-7.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported electrical capacitors in the CIS, comprising 88% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belarus ($X), with a 6.7% share of total imports. It was followed by Kazakhstan, with a 1.7% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Russia stood at +6.1%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Belarus (-3.4% per year) and Kazakhstan (+10.2% per year).

The import price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 15% against the previous year. Import price indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, capacitor import price increased by +11.8% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the import price increased by 26%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
