Ether Market Size in CIS

In 2022, the CIS ether market decreased by -5.3% to $X, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, consumption saw tangible growth. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the market remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, ether production declined to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, recorded a slight shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 39%. Over the period under review, production attained the peak level at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, ether exports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a deep reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 161% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Russia prevails in exports structure, accounting for X tons, which was approx. 93% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X tons), making up a 5.3% share of total exports.

Russia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the ethers exports, with a CAGR of +1.2% from 2012 to 2022. Kazakhstan (-1.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest ether supplier in the CIS, comprising 94% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 4.9% share of total exports.

In 2022, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -28.4% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a deep setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 64% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Kazakhstan amounted to $X per ton.

Ether imports shrank to X tons in 2022, with a decrease of -9.5% on the previous year. Overall, imports recorded a noticeable decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 40%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, ether imports shrank to $X in 2022. In general, imports saw a noticeable decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 57% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, Russia (X tons) represented the key importer of ethers, comprising 52% of total imports. Belarus (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 27% share, followed by Kazakhstan (15%). Uzbekistan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Belarus (with a CAGR of +29.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported ethers in the CIS, comprising 66% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belarus ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by Kazakhstan, with an 11% share.

In Russia, ether imports contracted by an average annual rate of -5.1% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Belarus (+21.7% per year) and Kazakhstan (+1.6% per year).

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 14%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2021, and then contracted modestly in the following year.
