In 2022, overseas shipments of festive or carnival articles increased by 31% to X tons, rising for the sixth consecutive year after three years of decline. Overall, exports posted a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 150%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Russia (X tons) and Belarus (X tons) dominates exports structure, together achieving 91% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X tons), making up a 5.4% share of total exports. Kyrgyzstan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Kazakhstan (with a CAGR of +96.7%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest festive articles supplying countries in the CIS were Belarus ($X), Russia ($X) and Kazakhstan ($X), together accounting for 99% of total exports.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Kazakhstan, with a CAGR of +68.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The export price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2022, almost unchanged from the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a noticeable shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 26%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per ton), while Kazakhstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Festive articles imports reduced to X tons in 2022, falling by -9% against the previous year's figure. In general, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 39% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then declined in the following year.

Armenia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to festive articles imports into Russia stood at -2.8%. At the same time, Azerbaijan (+43.4%), Uzbekistan (+34.7%), Kazakhstan (+24.4%), Belarus (+23.4%) and Armenia (+15.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Azerbaijan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +43.4% from 2012-2022. Belarus (+9.1 p.p.), Azerbaijan (+6.3 p.p.), Kazakhstan (+6.2 p.p.), Uzbekistan (+5.3 p.p.) and Armenia (+2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Russia saw its share reduced by -19.4% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported festive or carnival articles in the CIS, comprising 70% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belarus ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Kazakhstan, with a 6.6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Russia totaled -2.4%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belarus (+18.5% per year) and Kazakhstan (+21.2% per year).

The import price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2022, approximately mirroring the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the import price increased by 13% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
