Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 48% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons, and then declined significantly in the following year.
In value terms, meat meals and pellets exports surged to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +9.8% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +50.4% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 67% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
Belarus dominates exports structure, finishing at X tons, which was approx. 91% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Russia (X tons), achieving a 4.9% share of total exports. Kazakhstan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from Belarus increased at an average annual rate of +11.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Russia (+12.4%) and Kazakhstan (+1.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Russia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +12.4% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Belarus increased by +4.1 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Belarus ($X) remains the largest meat meals and pellets supplier in the CIS, comprising 92% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Russia ($X), with a 6.5% share of total exports.
In Belarus, meat meals and pellets exports expanded at an average annual rate of +10.2% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Russia (+13.8% per year) and Kazakhstan (-6.0% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, rising by 47% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Kazakhstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+1.3%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in CIS
In 2021, the amount of flours, meals and pellets of meat or meat offal imported in the CIS contracted to X tons, reducing by -4.4% against the previous year. In general, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 40%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, meat meals and pellets imports amounted to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 22% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Russia dominates imports structure, finishing at X tons, which was approx. 82% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Armenia (X tons), making up a 6.5% share of total imports. The following importers - Tajikistan (X tons), Kazakhstan (X tons) and Belarus (X tons) - together made up 11% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to meat meals and pellets imports into Russia stood at -1.6%. At the same time, Tajikistan (+51.3%), Belarus (+20.0%), Kazakhstan (+6.1%) and Armenia (+5.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Tajikistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +51.3% from 2012-2021. Tajikistan (+4.3 p.p.), Armenia (+2.4 p.p.), Belarus (+2.4 p.p.) and Kazakhstan (+1.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Russia saw its share reduced by -11% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported flours, meals and pellets of meat or meat offal in the CIS, comprising 89% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Armenia ($X), with a 4% share of total imports. It was followed by Tajikistan, with a 2.7% share.
In Russia, meat meals and pellets imports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Armenia (+4.6% per year) and Tajikistan (+52.3% per year).
