Fluorspar Market Size in CIS

In 2021, the CIS fluorspar market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, consumption, however, continues to indicate a pronounced decline. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, fluorspar production contracted to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, recorded a perceptible setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the production volume increased by 30% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, production failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, approx. X tons of fluorspar were exported in the CIS; with an increase of 27% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, exports continue to indicate strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 97% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

In value terms, fluorspar exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 115%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

Kazakhstan represented the main exporting country with an export of around X tons, which resulted at 53% of total exports. Russia (X tons) held a 35% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Tajikistan (12%).

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Kazakhstan (with a CAGR of +42.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) remains the largest fluorspar supplier in the CIS, comprising 61% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Russia ($X), with a 29% share of total exports.

In Kazakhstan, fluorspar exports increased at an average annual rate of +47.9% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Russia (+1.7% per year) and Tajikistan (+36.7% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 7.8% against the previous year. Export price indicated a noticeable increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, fluorspar export price increased by +60.9% against 2015 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 16% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Tajikistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of fluorspar was finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a pronounced reduction. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, fluorspar imports rose markedly to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded a noticeable decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 40% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Russia dominates imports structure, reaching X tons, which was near 94% of total imports in 2021. Belarus (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to fluorspar imports into Russia stood at -3.1%. Belarus (-1.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The shares of the largest importers remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported fluorspar in the CIS, comprising 89% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belarus ($X), with a 6.5% share of total imports.

In Russia, fluorspar imports shrank by an average annual rate of -4.8% over the period from 2012-2021.

The import price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2021, falling by -7.4% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a mild contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 25% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the import prices remained at a lower figure.
