For the third year in a row, the CIS flywheels and pulleys market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by 11% to $X in 2021. Overall, consumption recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level at $X in 2013; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.

In value terms, flywheels and pulleys production dropped slightly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, recorded a slight curtailment. In 2021, shipments abroad of flywheels and pulleys decreased by -2.1% to X tons, falling for the fourth year in a row after three years of growth. In general, exports, however, recorded a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 124% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, flywheels and pulleys exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 144%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Belarus (X tons) and Russia (X tons) prevails in exports structure, together committing 96% of total exports. Armenia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Armenia (with a CAGR of +75.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Russia ($X), Belarus ($X) and Armenia ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 99% share of total exports.

Armenia, with a CAGR of +50.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 21% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.7%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Armenia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+5.2%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in CIS

For the third consecutive year, the CIS recorded growth in purchases abroad of flywheels and pulleys, which increased by 17% to X tons in 2021. Overall, imports showed a strong expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 116%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, flywheels and pulleys imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports enjoyed a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 108%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Russia was the largest importer of flywheels and pulleys in the CIS, with the volume of imports finishing at X tons, which was approx. 78% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Belarus (X tons) and Kazakhstan (X tons), together constituting a 15% share of total imports. Uzbekistan (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.

Imports into Russia increased at an average annual rate of +9.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+15.7%), Belarus (+10.1%) and Kazakhstan (+3.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +15.7% from 2012-2021. While the share of Uzbekistan (+3.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Russia (-2.4 p.p.) and Kazakhstan (-3.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported flywheels and pulleys in the CIS, comprising 76% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belarus ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Kazakhstan, with a 5% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Russia totaled +8.0%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belarus (+3.5% per year) and Kazakhstan (+4.7% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 11% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a mild decline. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Uzbekistan ($X per ton) and Belarus ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) and Kazakhstan ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kazakhstan (+1.5%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
