Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +27.9% from 2012-2021. While the share of Belarus (+3.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Russia (-3.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In 2021, overseas purchases of folding boxboard increased by 9.1% to X tons, rising for the sixth year in a row after two years of decline. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 9.6% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Russia prevails in imports structure, accounting for X tons, which was approx. 74% of total imports in 2021. Uzbekistan (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Kazakhstan (X tons) and Belarus (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 21% share of total imports. The following importers - Azerbaijan (X tons) and Armenia (X tons) - each accounted for a 3.6% share of total imports.

Imports into Russia increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+99.1%), Armenia (+10.8%), Azerbaijan (+8.3%), Kazakhstan (+3.8%) and Belarus (+3.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +99.1% from 2012-2021. Uzbekistan (+8.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Russia saw its share reduced by -10.3% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported folding boxboard in the CIS, comprising 72% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belarus ($X), with an 8.1% share of total imports. It was followed by Kazakhstan, with a 7.7% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Russia totaled -1.6%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Belarus (+2.3% per year) and Kazakhstan (+0.1% per year).
