The shipments of the two major exporters of fresh or chilled carcases of beef and veal, namely Belarus and Kazakhstan, represented more than two-thirds of total export.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Kazakhstan (with a CAGR of +53.9%).

In value terms, Belarus ($X) and Kazakhstan ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Kazakhstan, with a CAGR of +51.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review.

In 2022, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a slight curtailment. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Belarus stood at $X per ton.

In 2022, after three years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas purchases of fresh or chilled carcases of beef and veal, when their volume increased by 107% to X tons. In general, imports saw pronounced growth. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, fresh beef carcase imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a tangible expansion. The level of import peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Uzbekistan (X tons) represented the major importer of fresh or chilled carcases of beef and veal, generating 68% of total imports. Russia (X tons) took a 17% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Belarus (10%). The following importers - Kazakhstan (X tons) and Azerbaijan (X tons) - each amounted to a 4.1% share of total imports.

Uzbekistan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the fresh or chilled carcases of beef and veal imports, with a CAGR of +134.2% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Belarus (+61.6%), Azerbaijan (+59.0%) and Kazakhstan (+20.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Russia (-13.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Uzbekistan (+68 p.p.), Belarus (+10 p.p.), Kazakhstan (+1.9 p.p.) and Azerbaijan (+1.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Russia saw its share reduced by -81.5% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, Uzbekistan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported fresh or chilled carcases of beef and veal in the CIS, comprising 74% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Russia ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Belarus, with a 7% share.

In Uzbekistan, fresh beef carcase imports increased at an average annual rate of +150.4% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Russia (-15.8% per year) and Belarus (+51.9% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2022, which is down by -11.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a mild contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 42%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
