For the seventh consecutive year, the CIS frozen pork carcase market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by 16% to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, consumption posted a resilient increase. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, frozen pork carcase production shrank modestly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. The total production indicated slight growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the last decade. Russia (X tons) constituted the country with the largest volume of frozen pork carcase production, accounting for 100% of total volume.

Exports in CIS

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of frozen carcases of pig meat, when their volume decreased by -40.2% to X tons. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a precipitous setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 596% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, frozen pork carcase exports shrank significantly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports recorded a sharp descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 700% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Russia prevails in exports structure, recording X tons, which was approx. 88% of total exports in 2022. Belarus (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 5.4% share, followed by Armenia (4.8%). Kazakhstan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to frozen pork carcase exports from Russia stood at +59.9%. At the same time, Armenia (+548.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Armenia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +548.7% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Kazakhstan (-3.9%) and Belarus (-40.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Russia (+88 p.p.), Armenia (+4.8 p.p.) and Kazakhstan (+1.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Belarus saw its share reduced by -94.2% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest frozen pork carcase supplier in the CIS, comprising 88% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belarus ($X), with a 5.4% share of total exports. It was followed by Armenia, with a 4.3% share.

In Russia, frozen pork carcase exports expanded at an average annual rate of +46.7% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Belarus (-43.1% per year) and Armenia (+590.7% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2022, falling by -2% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a perceptible decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the export price increased by 28%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in Kazakhstan ($X per ton) and Russia ($X per ton), while Armenia ($X per ton) and Belarus ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Armenia (+6.5%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in CIS

In 2022, purchases abroad of frozen carcases of pig meat increased by 14% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after five years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a significant decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 55% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, frozen pork carcase imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded a sharp downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 86% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Armenia dominates imports structure, amounting to X tons, which was near 88% of total imports in 2022. Belarus (X tons) held a 5.6% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Kazakhstan (5%).

Armenia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the frozen carcases of pig meat imports, with a CAGR of +3.1% from 2012 to 2022. Kazakhstan (-11.4%) and Belarus (-23.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Armenia (+82 p.p.) and Kazakhstan (+3.5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Belarus saw its share reduced by -1.6% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, Armenia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported frozen carcases of pig meat in the CIS, comprising 87% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belarus ($X), with a 5.5% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Armenia amounted to +2.1%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belarus (-24.9% per year) and Kazakhstan (-13.6% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 2.3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a noticeable reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 29% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the import prices failed to regain momentum.
