Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, frozen potato exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports continue to indicate significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 85% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
Russia dominates exports structure, recording X tons, which was approx. 95% of total exports in 2021. Belarus (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Russia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the frozen potatoes exports, with a CAGR of +69.7% from 2012 to 2021. Belarus (-19.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Russia (+91 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Belarus (-88.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest frozen potato supplier in the CIS, comprising 97% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belarus ($X), with a 1.5% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Russia totaled +62.0%.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 14% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 41% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Belarus totaled $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belarus (+7.1%).

In 2021, supplies from abroad of frozen potatoes was finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, frozen potato imports soared to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Russia dominates imports structure, recording X tons, which was approx. 73% of total imports in 2021. Kazakhstan (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 9% share, followed by Belarus (7.2%). The following importers - Azerbaijan (X tons), Uzbekistan (X tons), Moldova (X tons) and Kyrgyzstan (X tons) - together made up 9.3% of total imports.
Imports into Russia increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+82.1%), Kyrgyzstan (+28.6%), Moldova (+14.9%), Kazakhstan (+13.2%), Azerbaijan (+12.5%) and Belarus (+11.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +82.1% from 2012-2021. Kazakhstan (+4.8 p.p.), Belarus (+3.5 p.p.), Uzbekistan (+2.3 p.p.), Azerbaijan (+1.6 p.p.) and Kyrgyzstan (+1.5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Russia saw its share reduced by -15.8% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported frozen potatoes in the CIS, comprising 72% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 9.9% share of total imports. It was followed by Belarus, with a 7.2% share.
In Russia, frozen potato imports expanded at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kazakhstan (+12.9% per year) and Belarus (+10.7% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, surging by 3.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 8.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+0.7%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
