The CIS glass in the mass market expanded rapidly to $X in 2022, picking up by 8.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, showed a mild setback. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Moreover, Kazakhstan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +34.0% from 2012-2022. Belarus (+56 p.p.) and Kazakhstan (+7.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Belarus ($X) remains the largest glass in the mass supplier in the CIS, comprising 85% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kazakhstan ($X), with an 11% share of total exports.

The export price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2022, remaining constant against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a pronounced downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 23%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Belarus amounted to $X per ton.

After three years of growth, purchases abroad of glass in the mass decreased by -2.1% to X tons in 2022. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 274%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2021, and then fell modestly in the following year.

In 2022, Russia (X tons) represented the key importer of glass in the mass, making up 63% of total imports. Moldova (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 24% share, followed by Belarus (7%). The following importers - Kyrgyzstan (X tons) and Armenia (X tons) - each reached a 6% share of total imports.

Imports into Russia increased at an average annual rate of +21.7% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Kyrgyzstan (+271.0%), Moldova (+34.3%) and Armenia (+10.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kyrgyzstan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +271.0% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Belarus (-9.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Russia (+34 p.p.), Moldova (+20 p.p.) and Kyrgyzstan (+3.1 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Belarus saw its share reduced by -56.1% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X), Moldova ($X) and Belarus ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 92% of total imports. Armenia and Kyrgyzstan lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 5.7%.

Among the main importing countries, Kyrgyzstan, with a CAGR of +161.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -5.5% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a noticeable slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 19%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Armenia ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Moldova (+2.2%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
