Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 277% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, glycosides and vegetable alkaloids exports reduced to $X in 2021. Overall, exports saw a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 250%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
In 2021, Azerbaijan (X tons) represented the key exporter of glycosides and vegetable alkaloids, creating 50% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X tons), Russia (X tons) and Tajikistan (X tons), together generating a 46% share of total exports. Belarus (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Kazakhstan (with a CAGR of +51.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest glycosides and vegetable alkaloids supplying countries in the CIS were Azerbaijan ($X), Russia ($X) and Belarus ($X), with a combined 47% share of total exports.
Among the main exporting countries, Belarus, with a CAGR of +28.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2021, reducing by -4.6% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a mild shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the export price increased by 124% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per ton), while Kazakhstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belarus (-0.6%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
Imports of Glycosides And Vegetable Alkaloids
Imports in CIS
In 2021, the amount of glycosides and vegetable alkaloids imported in the CIS soared to X tons, with an increase of 35% compared with 2020. In general, imports continue to indicate a buoyant increase. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, glycosides and vegetable alkaloids imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports enjoyed a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 63% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Russia dominates imports structure, accounting for X tons, which was approx. 90% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Belarus (X tons), committing a 6.1% share of total imports.
Russia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the glycosides and vegetable alkaloids imports, with a CAGR of +11.5% from 2012 to 2021. Belarus (-1.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Russia (+8.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Belarus (-11.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported glycosides and vegetable alkaloids in the CIS, comprising 96% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belarus ($X), with a 2.2% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Russia amounted to +18.0%.

In 2021, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 16% against the previous year. Import price indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, glycosides and vegetable alkaloids import price increased by +16.4% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the import price increased by 26% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
