The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, goat hides and skins exports contracted sharply to $X in 2021. Overall, exports recorded a deep contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 108%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, Russia (X tons) was the major exporter of goat or kid hides and skins, making up 50% of total exports. Kyrgyzstan (X tons) held a 21% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Belarus (13%) and Kazakhstan (12%). Moldova (X tons) took a little share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to goat hides and skins exports from Russia stood at -16.1%. At the same time, Belarus (+75.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. In value terms, Belarus ($X), Russia ($X) and Kyrgyzstan ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 90% share of total exports.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Belarus, with a CAGR of +62.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -2.2% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded buoyant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when the export price increased by 58% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per ton), while Kazakhstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, overseas purchases of goat or kid hides and skins decreased by -41% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports saw a significant decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 75%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, goat hides and skins imports contracted markedly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports faced a sharp decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 102% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Belarus dominates imports structure, accounting for X tons, which was approx. 84% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X tons) and Kyrgyzstan (X tons), together mixing up a 14% share of total imports.

Imports into Belarus decreased at an average annual rate of -27.1% from 2012 to 2021. Kyrgyzstan (-27.1%) and Kazakhstan (-29.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Belarus (+6.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Kazakhstan saw its share reduced by -1.9% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Belarus ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported goat or kid hides and skins in the CIS, comprising 53% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 16% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Belarus amounted to -19.5%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Kazakhstan (-19.8% per year) and Kyrgyzstan (-18.6% per year).
