Russia prevails in exports structure, accounting for X tons, which was approx. 93% of total exports in 2022. The following exporters - Kazakhstan (X tons) and Belarus (X tons) - together made up 4.7% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to granite block exports from Russia stood at +6.1%. At the same time, Belarus (+27.7%) and Kazakhstan (+14.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +27.7% from 2012-2022. While the share of Belarus (+1.8 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest granite block supplier in the CIS, comprising 86% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 5.4% share of total exports.

In Russia, granite block exports shrank by an average annual rate of -1.3% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kazakhstan (+10.4% per year) and Belarus (+15.3% per year).

In 2022, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -1.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a abrupt contraction. In 2022, the amount of granite blocks and slabs imported in the CIS shrank slightly to X tons, therefore, remained relatively stable against 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 36% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, granite block imports expanded notably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 37% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Belarus was the major importer of granite blocks and slabs in the CIS, with the volume of imports accounting for X tons, which was near 50% of total imports in 2022. Russia (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 15% share, followed by Kyrgyzstan (11%), Kazakhstan (9.9%) and Armenia (9.2%). Azerbaijan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to granite block imports into Belarus stood at +7.6%. At the same time, Kazakhstan (+16.2%) and Armenia (+11.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kazakhstan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +16.2% from 2012-2022. Russia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Azerbaijan (-4.2%) and Kyrgyzstan (-4.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Belarus (+18 p.p.), Kazakhstan (+7 p.p.) and Armenia (+5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Azerbaijan, Russia and Kyrgyzstan saw its share reduced by -3%, -5.5% and -11.8% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, Belarus ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported granite blocks and slabs in the CIS, comprising 52% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Azerbaijan ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by Russia, with a 14% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Belarus amounted to +11.2%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Azerbaijan (+16.5% per year) and Russia (-4.9% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 13% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the import price increased by 31% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Azerbaijan ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
