For the sixth consecutive year, the CIS recorded growth in purchases abroad of grinding, sanding and polishing machines, which increased by 14% to X units in 2021. In general, imports recorded a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 38%. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.

The following importers - Kyrgyzstan (X units) and Moldova (X units) - together made up 4.5% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to grinding, sanding and polishing machine imports into Russia stood at +10.6%. At the same time, Belarus (+21.9%), Kyrgyzstan (+14.8%) and Kazakhstan (+7.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +21.9% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Moldova (-7.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Russia (+7.6 p.p.) and Belarus (+3.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Moldova saw its share reduced by -7% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported grinding, sanding and polishing machines in the CIS, comprising 81% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 5.1% share of total imports. It was followed by Belarus, with a 4.6% share.
