Non-Wheat Groats Market Size in CIS
The CIS non-wheat groats market fell to $X in 2021, flattening at the previous year. Overall, consumption, however, recorded a slight downturn. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Non-Wheat Groats Production in CIS
In value terms, non-wheat groats production declined slightly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production saw a mild shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the production volume increased by 9.4%. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports in CIS
For the fourth consecutive year, the CIS recorded decline in shipments abroad of groats and meal of cereals (excluding wheat), which decreased by -18.4% to X tons in 2021. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed perceptible growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 53% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, non-wheat groats exports dropped to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a tangible increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -35.5% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 27%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Russia prevails in exports structure, recording X tons, which was near 88% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Belarus (X tons) and Kazakhstan (X tons), together creating an 11% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to non-wheat groats exports from Russia stood at +2.5%. At the same time, Kazakhstan (+15.0%) and Belarus (+5.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kazakhstan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +15.0% from 2012-2021. While the share of Kazakhstan (+3.4 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Russia (-5.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest non-wheat groats supplier in the CIS, comprising 91% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 3.9% share of total exports.
In Russia, non-wheat groats exports expanded at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Kazakhstan (+12.4% per year) and Belarus (+7.3% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 12% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a slight decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the export price increased by 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belarus (+1.7%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in CIS
In 2021, approx. X tons of groats and meal of cereals (excluding wheat) were imported in the CIS; which is down by -12.6% compared with the previous year's figure. Overall, imports showed a deep contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 18% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, non-wheat groats imports shrank to $X in 2021. In general, imports showed a abrupt descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 14%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Belarus (X tons), Russia (X tons), Moldova (X tons) and Kazakhstan (X tons) represented roughly 80% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Uzbekistan (X tons), Tajikistan (X tons) and Azerbaijan (X tons), together constituting a 15% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Moldova (with a CAGR of +11.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline in the imports figures.
In value terms, Moldova ($X), Belarus ($X) and Kazakhstan ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 67% of total imports.
Among the main importing countries, Moldova, with a CAGR of +11.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, remaining stable against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a perceptible decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 9.6% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Tajikistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+8.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
