Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a perceptible descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when exports increased by 85% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, gypsum and anhydrite exports fell modestly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, showed a noticeable decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 35% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
In 2021, Azerbaijan (X tons) represented the major exporter of gypsum and anhydrite, comprising 45% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Russia (X tons) and Moldova (X tons), together comprising a 55% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Azerbaijan (with a CAGR of +0.7%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.
In value terms, Russia ($X), Azerbaijan ($X) and Moldova ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 98% share of total exports.
In terms of the main exporting countries, Azerbaijan, with a CAGR of +4.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2021, dropping by -13% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the export price increased by 34% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Azerbaijan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Azerbaijan (+4.3%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in CIS
In 2021, the amount of gypsum and anhydrite imported in the CIS declined to X tons, with a decrease of -8.2% on the year before. Over the period under review, imports recorded a abrupt shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 41%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, gypsum and anhydrite imports rose sharply to $X in 2021. Overall, imports recorded a perceptible reduction. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Belarus was the main importer of gypsum and anhydrite in the CIS, with the volume of imports recording X tons, which was near 82% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Armenia (X tons), mixing up a 16% share of total imports.
Imports into Belarus decreased at an average annual rate of -9.9% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Armenia (+8.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Armenia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +8.4% from 2012-2021. Armenia (+13 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Belarus saw its share reduced by -2.7% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
In value terms, Belarus ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported gypsum and anhydrite in the CIS, comprising 64% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Armenia ($X), with a 21% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Belarus stood at -3.4%.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 21% against the previous year. Import price indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, gypsum and anhydrite import price increased by +33.3% against 2017 indices. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Armenia ($X per ton), while Belarus amounted to $X per ton.
