Exports in CIS
After two years of decline, shipments abroad of gypsum, anhydrite and limestone increased by 12% to X tons in 2021. In general, exports, however, recorded a slight slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 22%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, gypsum, anhydrite and limestone exports expanded rapidly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, showed a mild downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 26%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Kazakhstan (X tons) and Russia (X tons) dominates exports structure, together comprising 87% of total exports. Azerbaijan (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total exports with a 6.8% share, followed by Moldova (6.3%).
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Russia (with a CAGR of +10.5%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.
In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest gypsum, anhydrite and limestone supplier in the CIS, comprising 57% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 20% share of total exports. It was followed by Azerbaijan, with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Russia totaled +1.3%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kazakhstan (-6.7% per year) and Azerbaijan (+4.8% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -5.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Azerbaijan ($X per ton), while Kazakhstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Azerbaijan (+4.3%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
Imports of Gypsum, Anhydrite And Limestone
Imports in CIS
After two years of decline, supplies from abroad of gypsum, anhydrite and limestone increased by 13% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a mild descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 100% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, gypsum, anhydrite and limestone imports rose significantly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, saw a abrupt slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 24%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Kyrgyzstan (X tons) and Belarus (X tons) dominates imports structure, together creating 93% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Russia (X tons), committing a 4.6% share of total imports. Armenia (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Armenia (with a CAGR of +8.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.
In value terms, Belarus ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported gypsum, anhydrite and limestone in the CIS, comprising 59% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kyrgyzstan ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Russia, with a 12% share.
In Belarus, gypsum, anhydrite and limestone imports decreased by an average annual rate of -5.9% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Kyrgyzstan (+1.6% per year) and Russia (-6.3% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2021, dropping by -3.1% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a pronounced decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the import price increased by 45% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Armenia ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+0.7%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
